Gold Rate — What You Should Know
Why do city rates differ?

Gold rates vary across cities due to local state taxes (octroi, VAT differences), transportation costs, and demand-supply differences. Southern cities like Chennai and Hyderabad often have slightly different rates from Delhi and Mumbai.

22K vs 24K — What to buy?

24K (999 purity) is pure gold — best for investment in coins, bars, or Sovereign Gold Bonds. 22K (916 purity) is standard jewellery gold — contains 91.6% gold with alloy for durability. 18K is lighter jewellery with 75% gold content.

MCX gold rate vs jeweller rate

MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) shows the wholesale spot price. Your local jeweller adds making charges (8%–25%), GST (3%), and wastage charges on top of the MCX rate. Always check MCX before visiting a jeweller to negotiate better.

When is the best time to buy gold?

Gold prices are typically lower during periods of equity market strength and high USD value. Festive seasons (Akshay Tritiya, Diwali, Dhanteras) see high demand and slightly elevated prices. February–March often sees seasonal dips.

Gold loan against this gold

At today's rate, you can get a gold loan of up to 85% of your gold's value (for loans below ₹2.5 lakh under RBI's 2026 tiered LTV rules). SBI offers the lowest rate at 8.75% p.a. Check our complete gold loan guide for all lenders.

What is BIS Hallmark?

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmark certifies the purity of your gold jewellery. A 6-digit HUID (Hallmark Unique ID) on every piece confirms its karat. Always buy BIS-hallmarked gold — non-hallmarked gold may have impure alloy content.

About Today's Gold Rate in India

India is the world's second-largest consumer of gold. Every day, millions of Indians check the gold rate before buying jewellery, investing in gold coins or bars, or evaluating their gold loan eligibility. This page provides the most up-to-date gold rates across all major karats — 24K, 22K, and 18K — sourced from MCX and verified jewellers across India.

Gold prices in India are influenced by global spot prices (traded in USD per troy ounce), the USD/INR exchange rate, import duty (currently 15% on gold), GST (3%), and local state taxes. When the US dollar strengthens, gold typically becomes more expensive in India even if global prices stay flat. RBI's gold reserves, central bank purchases globally, and geopolitical events also significantly impact gold prices.
